Cha Medical Group started as a CHA OBGYN Clinic in 1960, located in Cho-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul. Since then, it has continued to grow and become one of the major Korean medical groups that has 8 hospitals in Korea including general hospitals such as CHA Gangnam Medical Center, CHA Bundang Medical Center, and CHA Gumi Medical Center.  

  

Also, in 1999, Cha Medical Group established CHA-Columbia Fertility Center at Columbia University and has been writing a new history of domestic medicine’s global outreach since it became the first in Korea to export domestic medicine. In 2002, it acquired CHA-Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center (HMPC) in the U.S. and became the largest shareholder of the CFC (City Fertility Center), a fertility center in Australia in 2018. Cha Medical Group now has a global medical network with a total of 2400 global employees, around 50 hospitals and clinics in 7 countries, and 700 medical staff. 

  

Behind this achievement is the infertility medicine of Cha Medical Group. In 1986, Cha Medical Group became the first in Korea to succeed the IVF procedure and in the same year, it became the first in the world to accomplish the gamete intra fallopian transfer (GIFT). In 1998, it became the first to develop the vitrified egg freezing method and standard technology for egg freezing, leading the global fertile reproductive medicine in clinical and technical fields. 

  

Cha Medical Group has been striving to develop cures for intractable diseases through stem cell research based on its fertility reproductive technology and have had some success. In 2014, it attracted the attention of both domestic and foreign academia by publishing “Human somatic cell nuclear transfer using adult skin cells” in the 'Cell Stem Cell', a leading scientific journal in the stem cell field, and. In 2015, Cha Medical Group also dramatically improved the success rate of somatic-cell nuclear transfer, increasing the possibility of the world's first customized stem cell therapy. 

  

Cha Medical Group is preparing to enter the global market by developing cures for intractable diseases and new drugs, and become a top-notch global medical institution. To this end, it will actively utilize its industry-academia systems that include its domestic and overseas medical networks, companies such as CHA Biotech and CMG Pharmaceuticals, CHA University, and its research institutes in order to become a new medical paradigm for the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution.
